A Brief History of The Graybeards Magazine

(Click picture for a larger view)

The Graybeards is the official magazine of the Korean War Veterans Association.

Founder Bill Norris designed and "registered" the Graybeards Trademark, as pictured, with the State of New York sometime in September/October 1987 under his name.

In August/September 1997, someone in the New York State Legal Department, knowing that Bill Norris had recently passed away, sent then KWVA President Nick Pappas a letter saying the Graybeards Certificate of Trademark Registration would soon expire (10 years). Nick then contacted the association's N.Y. Corporate Legal Advisor, Attorney Alfred Sciarrino, a KWVA member, and he prepared the paperwork required to register the Trademark under KWVA Inc.

Bill Norris' wife's approval was required to transfer the Trademark to the KWVA. The required paperwork was completed and signed by President Pappas. The State of New York authorized the Graybeards Certification of Trademark Registration under the KWVA, Inc.

A "story behind the Graybeards logo" to the right was printed on page 3 in the May/June 1998 issue of The Graybeards.  Editor at the time was Vincent Krepps.  A scan of that page follows.

[Webmaster note: A "copy of the colored sketch suitable for framing" of the bearded man & boy logo is mentioned near the end of the article... if anyone has a copy of this memorial sketch, it would be greatly appreciated if you could scan it to a picture file and email it as an attachment to webmaster@kwva.org.]
